New Year, New You: Time to Pamper Yourself

Jan 04, 2012 - 11:15 AM

When was the last time you took a soak in your tub? Many of you have mentioned on our Facebook page that one of your New Year’s resolutions is to focus on creating a happier, healthier you. Don’t forget to have some “me” time every once and awhile. What is more relaxing than a bath?

I want to share some factoids with you about the benefits of some tub time in the hopes of encouraging you to take the time to pamper yourself with a relaxing bath!  Some people avoid bath salts because they are afraid they will dry out their skin.  And it’s true, they can.  However, we whip our bath salts up with great oils (jojoba and almond) that moisturize your skin while you’re enjoying your bath.

Sea salt is full of minerals and nutrients that benefit your skin and body.  As a matter of fact, it’s been known for centuries for its ability to help alleviate such conditions as arthritis, poor circulation, and muscle soreness. It’s a powerful detoxifying agent as well.  Sea salt infused with essential oils are a great way to transform your normal bathing experience into a healing one by combating stress, anxiety, insomnia, muscle aches, joint pain, and skin conditions.  What a simple remedy for de-stressing from the holidays!  You can make your own very simply by mixing salts with some moisturizing oils, and essential oils.  Or, of course, we offer many different scents of salts. We have bath salts you can buy online or artisan bath salts you can find at a participating retailer.

What is my personal favorite?  It really depends on my mood and time of day, etc.  But I always keep some Eucalyptus on hand in the winter.  It’s so therapeutic that we make it in both our Effervescent (foaming) Bath Salts, and our new Exfoliating (can also be used as a scrub) Bath Salts.

I hope I have inspired you to take some time out for yourself and take a nice long bath. Happy New Year!

This Is Who We Are

Dec 22, 2011 - 11:50 AM

Hello!  Welcome to Hugo Naturals!

We wanted to share with you our story and what make us unique. We founded Hugo Naturals back 2006. In that same year, we created our unique body care line.  Our combined backgrounds as professional cook and chef, herb farmers and entrepreneurs lead to our experimenting with recipes for the skin.  See, our orientation is food.  We believe that what goes on our bodies should be as pure as what we put in our bodies.  This unique “food perspective” is at the heart of what makes our line so unique and wonderful. We are passionate about excellence, and have a “holistic” approach to how we do things.

We started out selling our products at local Farmers Markets here in Southern California.  Our soaps, lotions and scrubs were so popular, we expanded to shower gels, shampoos and conditioners, and now we make over 100 different products in our “kitchen-factory” here in Chatsworth, California, near Los Angeles.  We still personally oversee the making of our products and hand-select our ingredients. So essentially nothing has changed, just our size.
The purity of our products is truly unmatched! Each ingredient we use is Food Grade. Our products are simply the purest, “cleanest” products available.  And not only that, our products are incredibly luxurious and sensual.  The textures, colors and scents are magnificent!  We’ve done something unique:  We have figured out how to make a sophisticated, luxurious body care line that’s also the ultimate in purity.  Some have called our line pioneering and revolutionary.  We just hope you enjoy our creations in good health.  That’s why we make them!
Enjoy!

Hugo & Debra define Purity

Nov 11, 2011 - 07:11 AM

We talk about the purity of our products all the time and we want you to know what we mean.  When we founded Hugo Naturals, we set out to raise the bar in our industry.  We knew our products, with their unprecedented quality would “speak for themselves”.  But we also set out to raise awareness about health and safety issues of commonly used ingredients and practices in body care.

When we created our company, we intentionally avoided using the word “organic” as part of our communication.  We did this because this word has been corrupted by marketing that claims “90% organic” or “70% organic” which is very misleading when you look at a personal care product.  For example, water, which makes up most of many body care products, cannot be deemed “organic”.  The second ingredient in many body care products is the foaming agent.  This ingredient is made up of approximately 50% water.  So you end up with a bottle that is 70-80% water, which cannot be classified as organic.  The part that’s left is what is “90% organic” or “70% organic!  We feel that this is very misleading communication, and we wanted no part of it.  We still don’t use the word “organic” and we won’t until there’s more clarity about what it really means to body care products.

Each one of our products is made from our unique “food” perspective.  We create our recipes and formulas for the skin just like we would if we were making a fantastic dish to eat.  We do this because it’s our philosophy that what you put on your skin goes in your body.  If it’s not food-quality, we won’t use it – it’s as simple as that!  This is where the word “Purity” does a much better job, we feel, at explaining the quality of our products.  Every single ingredient we use for each of our products is food-grade!  For example, our soaps are mostly Coconut Oil; the same you would buy to cook with!  (It tastes delicious!)

So in the confusion of determining what’s what with the products you choose to “feed” your body’s largest organ – your skin—we keep it simple:  Our Standard is what you put on your body should be as safe as what you put in your body.
